Talk: What "Artificial Intelligence" Means for Politics, Civil Society, and the Climate

by Scientist Rebellion Denmark

In this talk, Denise Utochkin will zoom out of ChatGPT and take a look at 'Artificial Inteligence' (AI) as a sociotechnical system and political project dating back 70 years.

Denise will present an analysis of 'AI' as an articulation of capitalist, white supremacist, and state violence and attempt to demonstrate that many negative side-effects of this set of technologies are not a bug, but a feature. Among them its growing contribution to the climate collapse, its reliance on blood minerals and devalued, traumatising labour, its gleeful adoption by authoritarian regimes and greedy corporations.

Based on this analysis, Denise will argue that we, as climate activists, have an imperative to oppose, resist, and refuse 'AI' and that doing so may open up new possibilities for mitigating the worst excesses of the ongoing climate breakdown.

Come join us for this interesting talk! There will also be snacks and space for discussion afterwards 🙂

The event will in english.
