5 dage inde i MAY:HEM arrangerer Den Grønne Ungdomsbevægelse en talk med Rania Masri og Nyombi Morris og efterfølgende folkekøkken!
Mærsk er et af de tydeligste eksempler på hvordan hensynsløs profitjagen resulterer i både folkemord og økologisk ødelæggelse, men vi ser igen og igen, hvordan koloniale strukturer er både drivende og forårsagende kræfter i de eskalerende og igangværende økologiske kriser.
Phd. Rania Masri er med på en online forbindelse fra North Carolina hvor hun bor lige nu. Hun vil fortælle om sit arbejde gennem organisationen North Carolina Environmental Justice Network (NCEJN) med miljøracisme i USA. Masri er fra hvad der i dag er nationalstaten Libanon, og hun vil fortælle om de tætte forbindelser mellem amerikansk og europæisk kolonialisme og økologiske konsekvenser – ikke mindst i relation til besættelsen af Palæstina. Rania Masri har arbejdet for FN i Egypten, og hun har undervist ved flere universiteter i Libanon.
Nyombi Morris bor lige nu i København som praktikant hos Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke, hvor han arbejder med at få fonde og banker til at trække penge ud af fossilindustri. Morris er fra Uganda og har deltaget i kampen for klima- og social retfærdighed der i mere end 6 år. Han vil fortælle om den europæiske fossil industris ekstraktivisme og hvordan den både eskalerer klimakrisen og tvangsflytter tusinder og atter tusinder af mennesker. Morris har studeret IT and Computerscience (ved Muteesa I Royal University i Masaka, Uganda) og mere for nyligt taget faget Environmental Science and Health ved Yale University, USA).
Talken vil vare en times tid og være modereret af en aktivist fra Den Grønne Ungdomsbevægelse. Efter talken har Den Grønne Ungdomsbevægelse arrangeret folkekøkken, hvor alle også er velkomne!

🔵5 days into MAY:HEM, Den Grønne Ungdomsbevægelse arranges a talk with phd. Rania Masri and climate justice activist Nyombi Morris.
Mærsk is one of the clearest examples of careless profit seeking causing both genocide and ecological destruction, but time after time it is visible how colonial structures in general are both driving and causing factors in the ongoing ecological crisis of the world.
Phd. Rania Masri will join us online from North Carolina where she currently lives, and will tell us about her work with environmental racism in the US in the organization of North Carolina Environmental Justice Netvork (NCEJN). Masri is from the Eastern Mediterranean, what is now the nation state of Lebanon, and from this position she will talk about the close connections between European and American colonialism and ecological consequences - not least in the context of the occupation of Palestine. Rania Masri has worked for the UN in Egypt and taught at several universities in Lebanon.
Nyombi Morris currently lives in Copenhagen where he is doing an internship at ActionAid, working for making funds and banks divest in the fossil industry. Nyombi Morris is from Uganda and has participated in the struggle for climate and social justice there for more than six years. He will talk about the extractivism of European fossil industry and how it fuels climate crisis and displaces thousands of people. Morris has studied both IT and Computer Science (at Muteesa I Royal University in Masaka, Uganda) and, more recently, attended a course in Environmental Science and Health (at Yale University in the US).
The talk will last for around two hours, and it will be moderated by an activist from Den Grønne Ungdomsbevægelse.
