Solidarity and justice from Palestine to Mexico. A talk with indigeneous activist Lupita Vásquez

I Mexico bliver oprindelige folk fordrevet fra deres land, deres jord bliver stjålet, studerende forsvinder sporløst efter anholdelser, og journalister myrdes i et alarmerende tempo. Alt dette sker imidlertid ikke uden modstand.
Modige stemmer rejser sig, heriblandt Lupita Vásquez, en Tzotzil-Maya kvinde fra Abejas de Acteal.
Vi inviterer til en visning af dokumentaren Lupita (21 min.), som fortæller historien om Lupita Vásquez – en overlevende fra Acteal-massakren i 1997. Her dræbte en højreorienteret paramilitær gruppe 45 medlemmer af den pacifistiske organisation Las Abejas i Chiapas, heriblandt børn og gravide kvinder, mens de deltog i et bønnemøde.
Som en del af Copenhagen People Power Conference gæster Lupita Vásquez nu Danmark. Efter filmvisningen inviterer vi til en samtalesalon, hvor Lupita selv deltager i en samtale med repræsentanter fra Internationalt Forums Palæstinagruppe samt Centro de Derechos Humanos Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas (FrayBa) – en menneskerettighedsorganisation, der arbejder for oprindelige folks rettigheder i Chiapas og udsender internationale fredsvagter til landsbyer, der trues af paramilitære grupper.
Samtalen vil være et forsøg på at bygge bro mellem kampe, fra Mexico til Palæstina, samt udveksle strategier og erfaringer i forbindelse med at organisere solidaritet. Dette med mål om at finde krydsflader, hvor bevægelserne kan styrke hinanden.

In Mexico indigeneous people are driven from their land, their territory is stolen, students go missing without a trace after arrests and journalists are murdered at an alarming rate. However this is not happening without resistance.
Brave voices are speaking up, including Lupita Vásquez, a Tzotzil-Maya women from Acteal.
We invite you to a screening of the documentary Lupita (21 mins), telling the story of Lupita Vásquez, one of the survivors of the 1997 Acteal massacre where far-right paramilitaries killed 45 members of the pacifist organisation Las Abejas while in prayer, including children and pregnant women.
As a part of the Copenhagen People Power Conference, Lupita is now visiting Denmark. After the movie we invite you to a conversation café with participation from Lupita as well as members of the International Forum Palestine group and Centro de Derechos Humanos Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas (FrayBa) – a human rights organisation working for the rights of indigenous peoples in Chiapas and organising peace guards to villages threatened by paramilitary groups and other threats.
The conversation will be an attempt to bridge the struggles, from Mexico to Palestine, as well as exchanging strategies and experiences related to organising solidarity. With the goal of finding intersections where different movements can lend strenght to one another. Come and be part of an important conversation about the global fights for justice.

En México se expulsa a los indígenas de sus tierras, se les roba su territorio, los estudiantes desaparecen sin dejar rastro tras ser detenidos y los periodistas son asesinados a un ritmo alarmante. Sin embargo, esto no sucede sin resistencia.
Voces valientes están alzando la voz, entre ellas la de Lupita Vásquez, una mujer Tzotzil-maya de Acteal.
Te invitamos a la proyección del documental Lupita (21 minutos), que cuenta la historia de Lupita Vásquez, una de las sobrevivientes de la masacre de Acteal de 1997, en la que paramilitares asesinaron a 45 miembros de la organización pacifista Las Abejas mientras rezaban, entre ellos niños y mujeres embarazadas.
Como parte de la conferencia Copenhagen People Power, Lupita se encuentra ahora de visita en Dinamarca. Después de la película te invitamos a un conversatorio con la participación de Lupita, así como miembros del grupo Foro Internacional Palestina y Centro de Derechos Humanos Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas (FrayBa) - una organización de derechos humanos que trabaja por los derechos de los pueblos indígenas en Chiapas y organiza brigadas de guardias de paz a los pueblos amenazados por grupos paramilitares en Chiapas.
La conversación será un intento de tender puentes entre las luchas, desde México hasta Palestina, así como de intercambiar estrategias y experiencias relacionadas con la organización de la solidaridad. Con el objetivo de encontrar intersecciones en las que los diferentes movimientos puedan prestarse fuerza mutuamente.
