colonialism: the cause of the climate crisis

af Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke Aarhus

Within the framework of Climate Justice Days, Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke Aarhus is proud to present this talk about colonialism.

The climate crisis did not just appear out of the blue or start from one day to the next. Quite contrary, the climate crisis can be traced far back in time, all the way to the start of Europes colonisation of the Global South. At this point Europe started exploiting the human and natural resources of the Global South, amongst them fossil fuels, the single most important cause of human excess emissions causing the current climate crisis.

In this talk by Global Aktion we will take a deep dive into the root causes of the climate crisis and trace the colonial legacy all the way up to today. Because even though many speak of colonialism as a historical event in our past, this is not the case. Colonialism is as present as ever, only it has taken new shapes. In recent years, big corporations and states are trying to legitimise the continued appropriation of the Global South in the name of the green transition. They are proposing solutions to the climate crisis that benefits the elite at the expense of people and our planet. It is our responsibility to say no to their new 'green' colonialism and demand real, transformative solutions. Join us on the 16th of September at 17 in Mejlgade 53 to hear more about why and how.

This event is part of the Climate Justice Days. A week-long festival about climate justice. Check out the rest of the program here https://dukop.dk/6656/
