DEGROWTH CAFÉ #1 - The pluriversality of Degrowth + community dinner and drinks
Degrowth Copenhagen finally comes to folkets hus and introduces our new monthly DEGROWTH CAFÉ series open to anyone! Come by if you want to learn and co-create knowledge on degrowth, meet practitioners and build communities of social change. Every month we will organise a Degrowth café focusing on a different topic and format, followed by a community dinner and hanging out at the bar together with your fellow activists. From a participatory workshop to a performance or moviescreening, we will do it all! During every café we will collect the knowledge created through different creative ways: art, video's, zine, collage, poems and even songs.
To kick off this series, the first Degrowth café will be a participatory event where we will discuss and question the pluriversality of degrowth. You will finally have the opportunity to ask those pending questions that keeps you up at night and discuss them with a diversity of fellow degrowth activists, researchers and practitioners. The questions will be collected during a plenary session and consensus-based we will decide which topics we will cover and which questions can be inspiration for our next degrowth cafés. We will finish the night with a community dinner and a fun night at the bar where you can consume whatever beverage your heart desires.
The goal of these degrowth cafés is to make degrowth accessible and show its pluriversality. We also want to host a space where activists and practitioners can meet and create communities of social change. A diversity of topics could include; the genocide in Palestine, a women-led food sovereignty community in India, anti-mining activism in Ecuador, repair cafés in Denmark, dumpster divers, decolonial academia and research, how to set up your own mutual aid system, permaculture farming, the human library and wherever your imagination takes you! But this we will decide all together in the first café!
After a year of Degrowth cafés we will collect all the knowledge that was co-created and publish a final zine.
In true folkets hus fashion, our Degrowth cafés will be open to anyone regardless of their age, race, gender, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, occupation, and knowledge of the topics.
