Food Utopia Workshop - Co-create an Alternative Food Practices Zine

af Food Justice group - Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke Aarhus

🌍 In this workshop, we will collaboratively learn about initiatives helping to grow a more just and sustainable food system.
First by reading about such initiatives from around the world (ie regenerative and urban farming, education, markets, distribution systems) then discussing them together and sharing our reflections on paper to co-create a food justice zine!
To finish, we share a plant-based meal 💚

“What is a zine?”
Zine refers to selfpublished magazines/fanzines - and there are pretty much no rules as to what they can be. The best thing about the format is that zines make sharing and distributing a diversity of stories, knowledge and art very accessible!
The methods used in zines often include collage and hand drawn illustrations, but can also be digital.
“Why zine?”
The creative component of zine-making is a tool to discuss and disseminate what we read. The resulting pages made in this and future food justice workshops will be collated into zines that we will distribute online and in Cafe Mellemfolk 🌿
“Do I need to be artistic? Or do I need to understand food justice?”
Not at all! We will all be learning together, and share our unique skills.
🎨 Materials for the zine will be provided but if you have materials (magazines/newspapers/paper/pens) that you want to use, bring them and upcycle them!
Want to Know More?
Our global food system is in crisis due to profit-driven industrial practices that harm the environment, biodiversity, and marginalized communities. Monoculture and chemical-intensive farming degrade soil and water, while social inequities persist. However, alternatives like food sovereignty and agroecology offer hope by promoting local solutions, policy reform, education, and collective action. These approaches prioritize local food production, support farmers, and advocate for fair market practices and debt relief.
Agroecology integrates ecological principles with social justice, promoting diverse farming systems and reducing reliance on chemical inputs. It values traditional knowledge and aims for social equity by empowering small-scale farmers. By embracing food sovereignty, agroecology, and the right to food, we can build a just and sustainable food system that benefits both people and the planet. 🌾🌍
